Kiasha - Harmonie en noir et blanc – Acrylic on canvas – 100 x 80 cm

Ying and Yang

The pursuit of harmony and balance characterizes Kiasha’s life and work.  This explains why she felt naturally attracted to Yin and Yang’s theory, which is based on the idea that everything exists and  operates according to the perpetual action and interaction of two forces: the Yin and the Yang. The bipolarity of Yin/Yang is totally complementary. Even though these two forces are « opposite », they are never antagonistic or homogenous. It’s always when one of both forces is at its strongest point that it carries the beginning, the birthing point of the other. This characteristic is represented in the Tao’s symbol by a small circle in the colour of the opposite part.

In the white part, there is a small, black circle and in the black part, there is a small, white circle.  As a consequence, Kiasha started to translate this duality to her work by using colours (mostly black and white, but also complementary colours), shapes (curves and straight lines) and different materials. The result was an individual exhibition « Yin and Yang » that took place in the cultural centre of Auderghem in 2008 and the selection of some of her paintings for the Winter Fair organised by the Cultural Centre of Ottignies/Louvain-la-Neuve in 2007 and 2008.
